The men behind the curtain fashioning the brave new world of corporate run education in America!

Michelle Rhee is the founder of StudentsFirst, The New Teacher Project (TNP), and IMPACT (legislation that is sweeping educational policy around the nation).

Nearly every organization that funds Rhee’s projects are members of the American Legislation Exchange Commission (ALEC), a super-lobby group of the top 1% wealthiest free market right wing corporations who meet behind closed doors with state legislators to craft “model legislation” that has the corporations self-interest at their core. ALEC has stated its goals for education include implementing the Common Core and revising public schools teacher and student evaluation systems, as well as creating sweeping reform policies that pave the way for corporate-sponsored for-profit charter schools. (see www.alecexposed.org)

So who funds StudentsFirst ?

The Friedman Foundation for Educational Choice is an Indiana-based nonprofit devoted to the privatization of schools through the promotion of an educational voucher system. It was founded by economists Milton Friedman and Rose Friedman in 1996. Milton Friedman is regarded as one of the most influential proponents of neo-liberal market economics (www.alecexposed.org).

The Walton Foundation is part of WalMart which which “is the most influential foundation in promoting school vouchers and has financed nearly every ballot initiative for vouchers since 1993.” (http://cnx.org/content/m34684/latest/). Walton has been identified as one of the top ten most wanted enemies of public school’s leadership.

The Senior Strategy Advisor for StudentsFirst is Kathleen deLaski who, before coming to StudentsFirst, worked as the senior program officer for education at the Walton Family Foundation.

So who funds The New Teacher Project?

Well, Rhee’s empire does. But additionally, TNP is chaired by Ms. Kati Haycock who is the Director of Ed Trust. Ed Trust is sponsored by the five larger companies associated with ALEC and who promote the agenda to privatize education: The Broad Foundation, Lumina, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, State Farm, and The Walton Foundation.

SO… WHO IS BEING SERVED BY THE RHEE-LED LEGISLATION BEING FORCED THROUGH STATES LIKE OHIO, MICHIGAN AND FLORIDA?

Answer: Michelle Rhee and BIG BUSINESS – WHILE OUR CHILDREN LOSE THEIR RIGHT TO A QUALITY PUBLIC EDUCATION.
